“Oracle will be the only company that can engineer an integrated system – applications to disk – where all the pieces fit and work together so customers do not have to do it themselves.” says Larry Ellison.
Angus passes on some interesting information about twitter – but more interesting dissection of LiveID delegated auth and DelAuth with LiveID. All of the developments in this area are making me slightly more hopeful that we will be able to use a majority of services with an identity and prifile provider of our choice (even ourselves) within the next 3 years.
Angus Logan reports from Web 2.0 Expo that JanRain’s RPX now supports Windows LiveID. Sites that use RPS can authenticate users with their account credentials from the following providers:
personally I think this is huge – I have to dig in a little more – but, I continue to like what I am seeing with RPX.
Khoi Vinh put me onto this today – i am a huge Alexander Girard fan so what could be cooler than the arrival of Alexander Girard fonts by House Industries. I am going to have to dip into the rainy day funds to make this purchase. I am just a little worried that I will get a little carried away with all this. Expect to see it used on the site here at some point in the future.
Well, I have enjoyed my brief blogging stint on Live Spaces, but I needed to get a little more control over things. So, I will be primarily blogging at my address katsivelos.com
Right now I am running Graffiti CMS over there – will take a day or two to get the basic tweaks in place.
So long <sniff /> Live Spaces <sniff/>
Just a quick post to say that I am bloggin at katsivelos.com again. I have just installed Graffiti 1.2 and am taking it for a spin. For the past couple of months I was testing out the blogging services at live.com, but they were just not for me. You can see my old posts here http://nicknook.spaces.live.com/default.aspx I will be porting them over at some point but I think I better focus on writing first.
No time to write right now – but on top of the great experiences I have been having with ADO.NET Data Service (nee Astoria) running on premises, I am now getting ready to take my work to a new heights – the clouds – Azure SQL Data Services – read all about it here. SQL Data Services Team Blog : The no spin details on the new SDS features
I will be back to tell tales of Flash and ADO.NET Data Services … What No HTTP PUT or DELETE… ah, no problems… and you want a little info on that service… How about a taste of $metadata… but that is all for another day – probably Friday.
–Update Thursday 3/12/2009 — This service is not yet available and as of today there is no public date set. But next week is Mix… so maybe we will get some new info then.
Marc blogging about Facebook hosting an OpenID summit. Marc begins to point to the crux of this whole thing. If the BigCos are serious – they are going to have to act as RPs – even in some limited way – otherwise there is no freedom. On that topic, as I have mentioned before, Microsoft via its HealthVault initiative has actually federated Live ID with 3 other OpenID providers – that is the kind of thing we need. I need to the BigCos to respect the people I trust to vouch for my identity. Well, we need to find a mutually trusted third party and it isn’t any of the people who were at the UX confab.
I was reading my friend/colleague Jonathan’s blog the other day and came across a post he made about the Play To Feature in Windows 7. While I think his assessment of the techno-political landscape was on target, he was wrong about the availability of the feature in the current beta (build 7000). In fact, we were pushing some photos around on our corporate Wi-Fi network – he on his Toshiba netbook and me on my Asus R1F table (both pieces of personal equipment ;). Seeing 7 on his netbook was awesome- I was completely sold – crisp performance – looks great – full aero glass. Impressive.
Some relevant posts on how to use the Plat To feature.
